April 18, 2008 -Update on the mange Boxer puppy that I still have to name. He is putting on weight and his spirit is coming back. It will be a long haul but I am confident he will make a full recovery. I am so touched by the overwhelming response to his situation. The donations we have received will go to his medical expenses, medication and the best food we can get for this wonderful Boxer puppy. Please be patient while we try to get out thank you notes to everyone and will post your name on our website. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart. Donna Lafreniere, President
March 23, 2008 - Buddy has been adopted and his new owners are putting in a fence before bringing him home. Buster and Cisco are going to their new homes next weekend. The best news is that our special needs (blind) puppy, Keller has found that special home. Congratulations to all of them.
February 3, 2008 - In the last two weeks we took in two male Boxers, Dexter and Buster Brown, and both have injuries that will require surgery. These expenses can quickly drain our funds. If there is any amount you can contribute we would be very grateful. Please go to the home page for donation options.

January 11, 2008 - The parents of 24-year-old hiker Meredith Emerson will adopt her dog Ella and take her back to their home in Longmont, Colorado. Ella was 1 of nine siblings that came into this rescue and was adopted by Meredith in March 2007.
The black Labrador retriever mix was with Emerson when she disappeared while hiking at Vogel State Park in north Georgia on New Year's Day. Authorities charged 61-year-old Gary Michael Hilton with murder in the woman's death after he led them to her body Monday night in a wooded area of Dawson County. Emerson family spokeswoman Peggy Bailey said during a telephone interview yesterday it was an easy decision for Emerson's parents, Dave and Susan Emerson, to decide to adopt the dog. In Bailey's words the dog is, "a part of Meredith that they'll always have." The dog was found last Friday wandering around a Kroger parking lot in Cumming. Bailey says she spent a few days being checked out by a veterinarian.
A memorial page has been set up to remember Meredith.
Dec 22nd - 2008 Boxer calendars are here along with assorted dog breed pillows. You can pick them up at our various adoption locations. November 27. 2007 - United Rescues For Animals Needs our help- This is a great organization that helps get animals out of kill shelters and puppy mills. They were the ones responsible for saving Keller, Connor and two other Boxers that are now in my rescue. Supplies needed to transport animals to their safe new homes! CRATES – LEASHES – COLLARS – BOWLS - CRATE WATER BOWLS The Sanctuary suffered a huge loss last weekend when we were traveling to North Florida and Georgia to rescue 33 dogs and 12 kittens. We were traveling north, and close to the GA border, when we noticed the front of our RV was smoking and stopped to check it out. Before we were able to save anything from the RV it burst into flames destroying all of our supplies as well as our cash and personal belongings. All of that can be replaced, and the fact that there were no animals in the RV and we escaped with our lives is a miracle in itself. We lost everything of course – 33 crates, the money for the trip – all our tools we carry with us when we travel let alone the RV.More importantly 33 dogs and 12 cats are still waiting for us to get them.We need your help in doing this. As we lost everything we need your help in getting them to the rescues that have committed to them and in safe hands. The past week was a blur of e-mails and phone calls as we put a plan together to make sure that all the animals that were scheduled to be picked up and taken to their new homes were safe until we could reschedule the trip. It was amazing to see everyone come together and offer boarding, fostering and transportation. What we need now is donations of crates, leashes, collars, bowls, crate bowls, basic supplies for the animals on the trip.If you know any animal supply stores that can donate any of these items, please contact them. If you have any crates, bowls, leashes etc. sitting around your home or rescue, please send them to us, or let us know how we can get them from you. We need to make sure that the animals are safe, as well as comfortable on their journey.
If you can help by a donation please PayPal to SARefuge@aol.com.If you have supplies to donate please -mail pdorsey@sanctuaryanimalrefuge.org.Checks can be mailed to Sanctuary Animal Refuge 210 N Palomino Street Clewiston FL 33440 Thank you!
October 4, 2007 - Last weekend I met transport at 5:30am and received 4 Boxers from a puppy mill. Two are 1 yr old fawn male Boxers that are not very socialized. After quarantine they will be placed in foster homes to learn what it is like to live the good life. The other two are eleven week old fawn male Boxers that have eye problems. Upon being examind by our vet it is believed that one is almost totally blind and the other is blind in one eye...how sad. They are both going to an eye specialist to determine if anything can be done to help restore their sight. This is an unexpected expense but par for the course of doing rescue. If you would like to donate to the medical expenses for these two pups please refer to the home page for donation options. Stay tuned for pictures of all of them. August 20, 2007 - The following link is a petition that will be sent to the prosecutor (and other officals) in the Yvette Warsham case (Newnan Boxers). She has committed animal cruelty against not just one but eight Boxers. This woman has been known to starve and neglect her dogs in the past and it's time she is stopped for good! http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/prosecute-the-woman-who-abused-this-boxer-dog-to-the-fullest
August 10, 2007 - We have a deperate need for foster homes so we can save some of these Boxers that are ending up in animal control daily. We provide the food, toys, bedding, crate etc. for you and medical expenses are covered by us. If you live in the N.Fulton/S.Forsyth County area and would like more information on becoming a foster home please email me Donna@RockysBoxerRescue.org
July 23, 2007 - Rocky has come back home to his final resting place. He will forever be in our hearts.
July 20, 2007 - Due to the recent intake of the "Newnan Boxers" and others, we are now officially full. We can certainly try to help you find a good home for your pet but we cannot take anymore in. If you choose to post your pet on craigslist or petfinder.com/classifieds please be sure to ask for an adoption fee. This breaks my heart to not even be able to save the Boxers in the shelters, but I am only one person with limited foster homes.
July 11,2007-Newnan Boxers are safe! If has taken me almost seven months since I encountered the unscrupulous breeding that was going on at a BYB breeder home. Finally all her dogs have been surrendered to my rescue and will get the care and loving they are so deserving of! I would like to thank the Atlanta area media for the coverage they provided this evening. The dogs that were rescued today have been to see the Vet already. Dr. Amiri at Steeplechase Veterinary Hospital in Cumming re-opened her facility after hours to exam these neglected animals. They all are under her care at this time and will be evaluated and placed for adoption as soon as their state of health is determined. Please check the adoption schedule for time and place where we will be holding adoptions as we have many otheres that are available and looking for their forever homes. As you can imagine we have incurred substantial expenses with this undertaking. If you would like to help out your donation is greatly appreciated and 100% of it goes to the care of the dogs that we rescue. You can click on the paypal logo on the home page, come to our adoptions, email Donna@RockysBoxerrescue.org or send a check to Rockys Boxer Rescue Inc., 645 Canton Hwy, Cumming,GA 30028 to make a contribution. We also are in need of foster homes, dog supplies, crates, etc. anything will help- Thank you!!! Donna Lafreniere, President
June 14, 2007 - A few weeks back we pulled a Beautiful 9 mth old white Boxer named Lucas from Spalding AC. The day he was pulled it was apparent he was very sick. He was rushed to Smyrna Animal Hospital and tested positive for Parvo - a deadly disease. It was touch and go the first few days but thanks to the wonderful staff and Dr. Griffith he pulled through this terrible ordeal. Lucas spent over a week in the hospital which was over $1000 in medical expenses. Just this week Lucas had a slight setback to his immune system when he was diagnosed with Coccidia and Hookworms but has been treated and seems to have shaken this off also. Despite all this he has a great disposition and is putting on weight. It will be awhile before Lucas will be available for adoption.
In other news - Three of our heartworm positive dogs (Rusty, Emma and Hooch) have started their treatment. Ellie and Mischa were retested for Demodex Mites after being treated for a month. They both still have active mites but Mischa seems to be winning the battle. Ellie on the other hand has now developed a secondary skin infection, poor girl.
Today we took in two young male brindle Boxers from Gwinnett AC - as luck would have it one is heartworm positive.
May 23rd - It is very Important that you keep your pet on heartworm prevention year round. For a few dollars a month you can save your pet! Currently we have four heartworm positive dogs, two demodex mange Boxer girls and one sweet boy, Lucas who is recovering from Parvo. Our medical expenses have far exceeded our funds and these dogs need your help so we can continue to treat them and be able to take in more. If you would like to make a donation or can foster a dog while going through their treatment please contact via email Donna@rockysboxerrescue.org. THANK YOU!
May 2nd - Rocky's Boxer Rescue has an urgent need for foster homes and donations. We have taken in 5 dogs in the last week and are still getting calls to save Boxers in shelters. We are a small rescue and are limited to what we can take in unless we get more foster homes. Also we have four dogs that are in need of medical treament. Duke, a gorgeous brindle Boxer, was hit by a car and then turned into animal control by his owners. He suffered mutliple gashes to his back legs . We had to take him to the emergency clinic which is very expensive. Emma is a Boxer x that is heartworm positive. Her owners kept her tied out to a tree for 3 yrs and then moved and left her there! We also have two 11 mth old Boxer girls that are being treated for demodex mange (not contagious) and it will be a long time before they will be available for adoption. We are a new and small rescue with limited funds. Any amount you can donate will help cover some of these expenses. Please email Donna@rockysboxerrescue.org if you would like to make a contribution or sponsor a pet. Thank you!
April 27, 2007 - Rocky is home and doing good. I am waiting for the pathology report to determine what his treatment will be to prevent this cancer from spreading.
April 20, 2007 - My beloved boy, Rocky, who is my reason for starting a Boxer Rescue has been diagnosed with a mass cell tumor on his hind leg. He goes into UGA Veterinary Hospital next week to have it removed. He also has a slight heart arrythmia which makes it risky for him to have anesthesia. Please keep Rocky in your prayers and hope that he pulls through okay. Thank you for caring.
Update on ARF 2007 - Despite the rainy weather it was a good turn out. Thank you for all that braved the weather and visited the many booths that were there. Hopefully some of you went home with a new family pet or at least some goodies!
